Saints Put Their Faith In Dennis
Southampton FC is just one of the many sports clubs who find that Dennis pedestrian mowers don’t just produce a perfect playing surface, they also maximise working efficiency.
Dave Roberts, the Grounds Manager at The Saints’ home ground The St Mary’s Stadium, has no less than four Dennis G760 mowers, two at the main stadium and the others at the club’s training ground. “I’ve always chosen Dennis machines,” says Dave “because of their ease of use and versatility.”
The heavy-duty yet easy to operate G760 is derived from the manufacturer’s FT range of precision mowers that accept quick-change cassette attachments for other essential maintenance tasks, enhancing efficiency.
At the impressive St Mary’s ground, Dave uses both G760s with six-blade mowing cylinders, verti-cutter attachments and grooming brushes. He also has two scarifying cassettes for the machines, one with 1mm blades and other with 2mm blades. This multi-tasking increases versatility and speeds up tasks that might otherwise have to be undertaken by hand. The G760 is 76cm (30in) wide and its lightweight footprint exerts minimal pressure on the turf. A cast three-section aluminium ribbed roller gives positive traction and a steel geared differential in an oil bath gives excellent manoeuvrability. Controls are ergonomically placed for ease of use.
Dave has developed an excellent working relationship with Dennis and with Alan Jeffery from local dealer M & S Enterprises. Ever striving for pitch perfection, he has helped the manufacturer to develop modifications for assessment.
Dennis lent Dave a new tungsten tipped scarifier to test at the end of last year. “It’s pretty aggressive and does a good job,” says Dave. “Its redesigned fan blade throws material into the collector box better. I’ve also got a modified verti-cutter cassette on trial. It has brushes in the spaces between the cutter discs to enable debris to be picked up even more effectively.
“I know that any feedback I give will go directly to Dennis MD Ian Howard for evaluation. All in all, it really is impressive customer care.”
